Pilates and the Benefits

Pilates is a form of exercise that uses the mind and body. Normally this is done with a series of movements and special equipment to help strengthen the body.

Equipment such as dumbbells, bands and Pilates balls are used. It is a good exercise method for toning muscles, but also achieving stability, improving endurance, gaining a strong core, which all improve posture.

The benefits of Pilates include:

  • Increases muscle strength.

  • It can improve balance

  • Body awareness

  • Posture and coordination.

  • Helps with circulation

Who can do Pilates?

Pilates is suitable for everyone from a complete beginner to someone who classes themselves as a pro. It is a lovely kind of body form of movement and low impact. But as always consult a health professional or with Ceri if you have any health concerns.

What's the difference between Yoga and Pilates?

So the question everyone wants to know…Pilates and Yoga, what's the difference?

They are often thought of as being the same, in some ways they have similarities, connecting with our bodies and minds, and are low impact.

But here are some differences:

  • Pilates focuses more on control of movement and muscle endurance - Often practising on movements for a longer amount of time to build strength, usually finishing with some lovely relaxation and releases.

  • Yoga focuses on connecting the body to the mind through movement and meditation - Using flow-like movements building up heat and energy, as well as stretches and props to help us get comfortable and relaxed.

Thanks for reading, we can’t wait to see you all giving Pilates a go!
